Transitional Kindergarten

   

Short Personal Bio:

My name is Kelsey Herrera. I am the Transitional Kindergarten teacher at St. Justin Martyr School. My Catholic education started at St. Irenaeus Parish school and continued on to Rosary High School. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree and Arizona teaching credential from Northern Arizona University. I currently hold a California Preliminary teaching credential and have been teaching TK at St. Justin’s for one year. Outside of school, I enjoy being outdoors and traveling.

Parent Guide

Welcome to TK! I am Kelsey Herrera and I will be your child’s TK teacher this year. We will be learning so many fun and new things this year! If you were not able to make it to Meet the Teacher, I included a letter in your child’s folder that will let you know more about myself. I am looking forward to all of the successes that will come this year!

Weekly Newsletter

Every Monday, a weekly newsletter will be sent home. PLEASE make sure to read it so you know what’s happening in our classroom every week! Our school also sends out their own digital weekly newsletter called the IT (Informative Tidbit). It will inform you of what is happening at our school and in the beginning of the month will include a monthly calendar.

 

School Hours & Absences

M, T, W, F: 7:50AM-3:00PM

Thursday: 7:50AM-2:00PM

Wednesday: Optional Ice cream treat (.25 cents-$1.00)

Friday: Formal Uniform for mass (check school handbook for appropriate formal uniform attire)

*Every Thursday is a 2:00 dismissal and every Friday is formal uniform*

Absences: If your child will be missing school or leaving early for any reason, please contact the school office FIRST, then contact me.

Classroom Management

I love having a fun and safe learning environment for all of my students. I believe if my students have fun and feel safe in their environment, they will be successful. My goal for every child is to leave my class in June being the best version of themselves. In order to reach this goal, we need have a well-managed class. One management system I used is called ClassDojo. This online management tool allows constant parent-teacher communication. I am able to give students/groups positive points for good behavior and negative points for behavior that needs to be improved. I am also able to post pictures, videos and announcements so you are updated immediately when something is posted or your child recieves a point or loses one. It will also give you a summary at the end of the week of how many positive and negative points your child received. PLEASE make sure to sign up for Classdojo right away! Downloading it as an app on your phone or ipad will be the easiest way to access it.

Birthdays & Volunteers

We love celebrating our birthdays in TK! If you would like to bring in a treat for the class to eat during recess that would be acceptable. Please contact me beforehand. Summer birthdays will be celebrated at our end of the year party!

If at some point during the year you would like to volunteer in our classroom, you MUST be fingerprinted. You can receive the information and paperwork in the front office.

*PLEASE pack your child with an extra pair of clothes (preferably a uniform) in case of an accident*

Tech Use:

In our TK Class we use our Ipads during our center time and use the SumDog app for math and ABC Mouse for Language Arts. We also use our projector for our ClassDojo and GoNoodle brain breaks.
