Welcome to the 2017-18 School Year!

Dear St. Justin Martyr School Families,

We are counting the days until we welcome you back. I ask God to bless your last few days of summer and your preparation for the new school year. He has guided us through a successful summer. The boy’s restrooms have been updated with new urinals. We have been measured for new entrance/exit doors that will be installed in the near future. We have added music to our curriculum. On Mondays, classes will combine for music skills and theory with Mrs. Antoinette Miraflor.

Meet Your Teacher from 12:30-1:30 pm on Monday, August 28 if you would like to visit before the first day of school. We will have a “Meet and Greet” Continental Breakfast under the shelter following the Opening Ceremonies for parents and guests on the first day.

If you attend Opening Ceremonies in O’Connor Hall at 7:50 am on the 30th, park in the west end of the school parking lot. The first 3 days will be half days, 7:50 am-12:00 pm. Daycare is available the first week at 6:30 am and 12:10-6:00 pm. Regular daycare hours will begin September 05. Children not picked up by 12:10 pm, 2:10 pm (Thursdays), or 3:10 pm will be escorted to daycare by their teachers and a charge is applied. Morning daycare students must be signed in by the person dropping them off. Please park and walk your child to Room 6.

Mr. Frank Karczewski comes to us from Notre Dame’s ACE Program. He will teach the Middle School Language Arts. Miss Haley Parent, a graduate of CA State University Fullerton is the new 2nd grade teacher. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Miss St. Paul will step up to the Middle School Science position. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology and a love for science as well as sports. She is gathering resources for initiating STEM in our science curriculum. The children will have Physical Education two days a week with America on Track. SJM’s outstanding staff is looking forward to helping your children have the best possible school year.

TARDIES: If you are late to school, park in the public school parking lot next door and walk your child to the front office to sign him/her in. The public school next door to us has given us access to a few parking spots.

DISMISSAL: Enter the school parking lot from Empire, park and walk to O’Connor Hall or quad area where the teachers are waiting with the students. In case of rain, pick up your child in the classroom. Once you pick up your child, YOU are responsible for his/her safety. Keep them close to you.

NEW FAMILIES: We will present new family information 30 minutes before the mandatory PTO Meeting on Thursday, September 14. NEW FAMILIES at 6:30 pm, PTO MEETING at 7:00 pm.

SYCAMORE INFORMATION SYSTEM: This system, established by the Orange County Diocese for all diocesan schools includes important documents such as the Parent/Student Handbook.

UNIFORM: Inspection for proper uniform will begin on August 30. Please note that socks must be visible above the shoe and sport style socks must reach the ankle. All basic colors are acceptable for shoes – black, brown, navy, gray, white or red. BE READY FOR FULL UNIFORM DRESS FOR OUR FIRST WEEKLY MASS ON FRIDAY, September 15.

BE INFORMED: Make it a habit to read the “IT” Newsletter that is sent to your email at the beginning of each week.

FINAL REMINDERS:
-Students should not arrive on campus before 7:45 am.
-NO PARKING OR DROP OFF IN THE CHURCH PARKING LOT. THANK YOU.
-Kindergarten immunization forms are required before your child can be on campus.
-TK &First grade students must have a physical before starting school.
-Entering first graders need to have a physical and a TB test.
-7th graders must have proof of the mandatory T-dap whooping cough shot in the front office.
-Inform the front office if your address or phone number has changed.
