SJM Weekly Newsletter 9/25/2018

September 25, 2018                  Issue 5 Volume 45
“Passing on the Torch of Catholic Learning, Leading, and Serving”

Dear SJM Families,

CATHOLIC EDUCATION:  Peer Pressure Works for Education – Students in a Catholic school are there because they want to be there, and that makes all the difference.  Bound by common goals and aspirations, students find an environment where peer pressure works toward education, an atmosphere where academic achievement is valued, and doesn’t conflict with social acceptance.  And while intellectual curiosity can’t be “taught,” it can be “caught.” Your child’s individual interests can be encouraged and rewarded, laying the foundation for a lifetime of achievement.

FAITH FACT: The Holy Archangels – The term  ‘arch’ is Greek for ruling or Chief. Archangels are only mentioned very little in the Bible. Out of the seven, names of Michael and Gabriel are more familiar to us. Michael the Archangel is a very important individual in heaven. Archangel means “chief of the angels”, so Michael must be the chief or leader of the angels.  Michael means “Who is like God.” Archangel Gabriel’s name means ‘God is my strength’.  She is often portrayed holding a trumpet and as the only female archangel.
Raphael, whose name means ‘God heals’, is the archangel designated for physical and emotional healing. He is also the patron of travelers, watching over them to ensure a safe journey. September 29 is designated for The Holy Archangels.

Sincerely in Christ,
Mrs. Balsis
