It was a great first day!  Thank you, parents, for all you did to prepare your child for school.  Spirits were high.  Keep that triangle of cooperation between student, teacher and you, to see your child have the best possible school year.

Uniform: Review the handbook early in the school year to stay on top of uniform policies.  NOTE:  Shoes should be basic colors plus red as that is a school uniform color.

Haircuts: Great so far.  BOYS: Be cautious of the new fad of very short on the sides.  It cannot be shaved or close to it.  I spoke to a barber.  It sounds like the clippers need to be set at least #2 to pass inspection.  The first uniform inspection will be on September 14.  Don’t forget, you cannot blame it on the barber.

Board Members: I am interested in interviewing individuals who would like to serve on our PTO Board.  PTO heads our fundraising efforts.  Our board includes 6-8 members.  The position of president is open at this time.  Our fundraisers this year will most likely include: Jogathon, Pancake Breakfast, See’s Candies at Easter, Christmas wrap online, and possibly Friday Night Family Activities.  Join in.  Earn service hours and support your child’s education by being an active parent.

After School Activity:  A Strum Club will form with Mr. Larry Lopez in charge.  There will be two after school sessions.  Ukelele will meet on Tuesdays from 3:00-3:45 pm. and guitars on Friday from 3:00-4:00 pm.  Both sessions are for grades 3-8.  There is a short audition with Mr. Lopez to qualify for the Tues. and Fri. after school sessions. Classes will be limited.  Watch for more information to follow.

Also watch for Showtime Dance, Martial Arts, Children’s Choir, and Soccer Shots this year.

Don’t miss Back-To-School Night!  Meet with your child’s teacher and learn all you need to know to help your child have a most successful year.  See you Thursday night.  Daycare is available for siblings who are students of SJM.

Welcome to the first issue of Vol.45 of the IT, our weekly School Newsletter

Every Tuesday, our school office will publish a newsletter containing a short message from our principal as well as a summary of important tidbits of information that will keep you in the know. That is why we call this long running newsletter the IT(Informative Tidbits). You can access it a number of ways;

  • Read the version that is most convenient to you, and stay informed. This will ensure that you do not miss any important deadlines or announcements.

Family Resource Guide – Revised Edition
In an effort to make our school resources and procedures more convenient and accessible, we published the first ever Family Resource Guide. It is intended to be an easily accessible resource to help you find answer to the most common questions that may come up over the year.
Please maintain your copy, and do not hesitate to request a replacement at our front office if you misplace or damage yours.

Those of you who signed up to be billed via invoice each month should have received an invoice for September payment.  The payment due date for the invoice method is the 1st of each month.  If you have not received an invoice, please contact FACTS immediately at 866-441-4637 to make arrangements for payment.  (NOTICE:  Families who registered after August 11 might not have received an invoice.)   A $30.00 late fee is assessed for late payments.  FACTS assesses a fee for payments that are returned unpaid by your financial institution.
Remember, your first payment to FACTS includes the FACTS $43.00 one time per year administrative fee.

The P.E. items (t-shirts & shorts/sweatshirts & sweatpants) that you ordered on registration night in May have been distributed to your child.  Your child’s order was sent home with a copy of your order form attached.   If there is a problem with your order, please let the office  know immediately so it can be rectified. We will begin selling available stock on Monday,  September 11.
If you did not place an order on registration night last May (or if you are new to SJM School), you can begin purchasing items on Monday, Sept. 11.  TK students DO NOT dress out for P.E.  Limited overstock is available.   Items are available on a first come, first served basis.
P.E. T-shirts:  $6.00 each        P.E. shorts:  $8.00 each
P.E. sweatshirts:  $11.00 each    P.E. sweatpants: $10.00 each
Pay by check or cash.  CORRECT AMOUNT,  PLEASE, if paying by cash.

The Orange County Health Department dictates the following  procedures.
A Parent/Guardian and Physician Request for Medication form must accompany each medication for your child.  Your child’s physician/health practitioner must sign it.  This applies to prescription and non-prescription “over the counter” medications.
A medication form is available through the school office.  Please read the information below very carefully and adhere to this procedure when the occasion arises.  No exceptions can be made.  (We recommend that you carry one of these forms with you when your child has a doctor appointment so that the doctor can fill out the physician section at the time of the appointment.)

Every student in the school will have his/her picture taken Wednesday, Sept. 16, whether or not he/she places an order.  Students placing an order must bring their order envelope to school with them to present directly to the photographer.  Each student needs his/her own order envelope with payment enclosed-exact amount, no change given if paying by cash.  We have no control as to what time your child will have his/her picture taken, so please be sure to send him/her to school with the order envelope properly prepared.  Make checks payable to Sunset Photography.  Picture Make-Up Day (for students who are absent or do not order on Sept. 26) will take place on Friday November 9th.
FULL UNIFORM DRESS IS REQUIRED FOR ALL STUDENTS ON PICTURE DAY, including white shirt, navy blue cardigan sweater or navy blue sweater vest.

Family Dinner Night
Come dine at Ruby’s and 20% of all food and non-alcoholic beverage sales (when accompanied with this flyer) will be donated to St. Justin Martyr School.    Thur. Sept. 20th – Sun. Sept. 30th   7am-10pm
