A WEEKLY NEWSLETTER OF CURRENT EVENTS
AT ST. JUSTIN MARTYR PARISH SCHOOL

Established 1959
October 2, 2018                  Issue 6 Volume 45
MISSION STATEMENT:
“Passing on the Torch of Catholic Learning, Leading, and Serving”

Dear SJM Families,

A CHOICE FOR EDUCATION:  When you chose a Catholic school for your child, you made 2 very positive statements about your attitude toward education.  You are saying that education is very important to you and your child.  It is so important that you would rather pay for quality than receive less than that for free.  You also are saying that you want a school that will educate the spirit as well as the intellect.  You have chosen an environment that emphasizes Christian values, an atmosphere that fosters responsibility and requires courtesy.  Today, Catholic schools welcome all students who want an academically challenging education in an environment of love, trust, and loyalty.

FAITH FACT: The Most Holy Rosary – The month of October is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary.  The feast of the Holy Rosary is on October 7. The day was dedicated by St. Pius V who credited a victory over the invading Turks to the intercession of Mary through the rosary. The word Rosary came from the latin word “rosarium” meaning “rose garden. ”According to history, St. Dominic received the Rosary from the Blessed Virgin as a means of converting the Albigensians and other sinners.  Although, historically 15 or even 20 decades were recited, the present day rosary is usually limited to five decades.  Each decade is recited in honor of a mystery in Our Lord’s Life and that of his Blessed Mother.

Keep the faith, but don’t keep it to yourself.
Mrs. Balsis

Excused Absences
Parents should schedule all medical and dental appointments for after school hours.  However, if a child must leave campus for such an appointment, please inform the front office beforehand by phone, email or written note.  The date, time and type of appointment is needed so that the sign out form can be prepared.  The parent/guardian must come to the office at the appointed time to pick up and sign out the child.  No child will be allowed to leave the premises unless he/she is signed out and accompanied by his/her parent/guardian.
In order for the absence to be excused, a note from the doctor/dentist must be presented to the receptionist.  Medical appointments will be recorded as an absence without a note.

Medications on Campus
The Orange County Department of Health requires a request/permission form filled in by both the parent/guardian and the physician in order for any medication to be dispensed on school grounds.  The forms are available in the front office.  No medications, including non-prescription or “over the counter”, will be allowed on campus unless we have these forms on file.
No student is allowed to have any type of medication, including inhalers or aspirin, on his/her person, in their book bag or lunch box.
School employees are not allowed to administer medications to students.  However, they are allowed to assist the students in administering the medication to themselves and supervising to ensure that the correct dosage is taken. Please note that St. Justin School does not employ a registered nurse.
